Question: What problems are associated with 2 weeks of a fever from 102.2 to 104.4, with no other symptoms? She had a UTI which responded to anti-biotics, but the fever remains. She has no pain anywhere. She had an extensive blood panel and culture today. She is extremely tired and doesn't eat much.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

This is a high fever to be having for 2 weeks. I'd ask about travel outside of the country and other infectious disease questions, but given that this came on after a UTI, I am concerned about a kidney infection. Kidney infections (pyelonephritis) can occur after a bladder infection if the infection moves up into the kidneys, even if the bladder symptoms are gone. Kidney infections are usually associated with some aching in the flank area, but not always, and there can be fatigue, some nausea and loss of appetite, and fevers. Kidney infections often require IV antibiotics.

Given the time connection between the UTI and the continued fevers, I'd repeat the urinalysis and urine culture. I imagine her doctor did that today when she got blood cultures?
