Question: I have been on Enchorate chromo for several years for Affective disorder. when I started experiencing intentional tremors in my right hand my psychiatrist reduced the dose as my sodium valproate level was in the toxic range. however now I am experiencing the same in my left hand as well. I am much better health wise and have reduced my weight considerably (15-18 kgs) with diet and exercise and diet. I was on 1300 mg Enchrate chromo. now I am on 1000 for over 5 yrs. advise me should i be reducing the dose still further..will that help?
Brief Answer:
You could further reduce or change the drug.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
Tremors are a common side effect of encorate chrono (sodium valproate). Therefore, it would be helpful if you could further reduce the dose of encorate chrono.
Other option if the dose can not be reduced, is to change to another drug such as oxcarbazepine.
Please discuss this with your doctor.
I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

I have reduced my dose of Enchorate Chrono from 500mg after breakfast & after dinner to 300mg in the morning after breakfast and 500mg after dinner and my tremors towards evening are considerably reduced. But towards morning my hand tremors are similar as before while handling the cup of tea. But I feel better already. I did so to gradually reduce my dosage to 300mg OD. My confidence is restored as I can now handle a cup of coffee in a public place like a cafe towards evening. Thanks so much for your advice. I'm very grateful. Earlier I was under the impression that my condition is irreversible.
Brief Answer:
Good to note that you are better.
Detailed Answer:
