Suggest Treatment For Sciatica Pain In Calf

Question: I was patting the sides of my lower legs today while telling a story. I felt some discomfort on the side of my right calf/shin area and stopped patting my legs I got up to walk shortly after that and I could feel that my pants leg was rubbing against something on my leg and this was a sensation I was not familiar with. I pulled up my pants leg to find a "goose egg" on the upper part of the calf just to the right of midline over an area of a known varicose vein. It was not discolored and was just swollen. I put ice on it for several minutes and the swelling went down significantly, but the pain has continued to advance. It is to some degree sharp but mostly it is throbbing. There has been some pain in the calf as well as at time some down into my foot and it has caused my sciatica to flare as well. How concerned should I be about the possibility of a blood clot?

Brief Answer:
Looks more of sciatica pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history in details.
To recapitulate: Female/57 - discomfort on the side of the calf/shin - goose egg on upper part of calf over the area of a known varicose vein - not discolored - icing helped for the swelling to go down - but the pain continues - throbbing to sharp - some pain in the calf too - down to foot - sciatica flare up - how concerned should you be about the clot.

Clot in the vein can not get reduced on icing, in fact the swelling will remain the same. There will be edema around and automatically of the whole lower limb.
Clot in the superficial veins is not known to occur.
Deep vein clotting is serious and the whole lower limb below the knee gets swollen up.
This pain looks more of sciatica flareup and the goose bump could have been due to urticaria, or just non-specific or a insect bite or so.

I hope this answers your your query.
