Suggest Treatment For Scar On The Glans Penis

default
Posted on Sat, 5 Nov 2016
Question: have a small indentation depression scar (About 4mm circumference and not very deep, perhaps about 0.1mm deep ) on my penis glans near my uretha. Can anything be done aesthetically to improve the appearance of this ?

I'm not 100% sure whether this should be in the urology or dermatology section but I figured dermatology would be the most appropriate . Please find the photos attached . This has caused me deep worry and embarrassment and has massively affected my sexual confidence . Any response you give would be greatly appreciated so I can restore some hope .

Thank you in advance .

Regards

Brief Answer:
Subscission can be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query and photograph.
It needs to be corrected surgically.
A minor surgery known as subscission is required.
In this a needle is used to break adhesions between mucous membrane of glans and underlying tissue.
It is performed by a dermatologist.
The procedure can be done on opd basis and needs to be repeated 3 to 4 times for good results.
Please meet a dermatologist and get it done.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Hi Dr XXXXXXX ,

Thank you for your response . I should have mentioned , it was a self inflicted injury as opposed to any sort of genetic change in the body (I'm not sure if that makes a difference to anything?) .

Is this procedure something you have come across before in specific relation to my area of the glans penis ? It's just I know the glans skin is very prone to damage so I'm just worried I don't want to make it any worse . Is there any risks with the procedure in that sense ? The scar has a different pigmentation to the rest of the skin also so would that be restored too ?

Thanks again for your time .

Brief Answer:
Details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It doesn't matter even if it is self inflicted injury.
The procedure i mentioned is for scar revision.
The covering of glans is very thin hence a finer needle is used.
This procedure can make the depressed area smooth however pigmentation will remain for around an year.
The problem with this procedure is that you cannot have sex for around 3 months as it is a surgical procedure.
You need to decide upon this.
I dont feel that you have a big problem.
I have seen many patients who have scar on glans without any botheration.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Many thanks again for your response .

I have attached a new photograph (Called - 'arrow photograph' ) which shows an arrow identifying where the scar is . I know you already know where the scar is but I just wanted to 100% confirm this . Could you just look at this new photograph and confirm you are talking about the same scar that is highlighted by the arrow please ?

Finally , have you seen any patients with scars on the glans which are worse than mine ? I am just very worried that no one else has a scar on the glans that is as bad as mine .

Thank you again for your detailed response , I appreciate your views .

Brief Answer:
It's not that worse

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the photograph.
Yes I was talking about the same scar.
I have many patients with similar or even worse scars and have even treated a few of them.
I don't think It will cause any problem in sexual activity.
Just relax It's quiet normal.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Many thanks again for your response .

With the patients you have treated , were they all successful ? Did the subscission make any of the scars worse ?

I'm more worried about the difference in pigmentation between the scar and the rest of the glans skin because when I am erect , the scar smoothens out but the pigmentation becomes more clear (Please see new photograph I've just added called 'discolouration photograph' ) . I know the discolouration in the photograph doesn't look very bad but it is worse when looking at it in real life because the photograph is not 100% clear. I'm interested to know how the discolouration will return back to its normal pigmentation after the subcission ?

Thanks again , your responses are very informative and are really helping me gain more clarity about my problem

Sorry I forgot to add - The reason why I am worried so much about the discolouration is because I don't want people thinking it is a STD . .

Brief Answer:
Scar and pigmentation can be reduced

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
Subscision helps in filling the scar but pigmentation remains.
This pigmentation can later be reduced with the use of mild steroid cream like cortisone.
The procedure has good success rate but will require almost two to three months of sexual abstinence and also there would be pain.
You need to take a calculated approach.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
