Suggest Treatment For Scabs And Blisters While Recovering From Chicken Pox

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Oct 2016
Question: I am suffering from Chicken pox and today is the 17th day. Almost all the blisters are turned into scabs around 10 days back but still only 10% of those have fallen. I have few questions :
1. How many days it take for all the scabs to fall. Asking so as it is already the 10th day from the day the blisters turned into scabs.
2. As of now I have 2 types of post blister scabs (Pics attached). I would like to know if I can put water on both of these types while taking bath.
3. As its the 17th day from the day I started getting chicken pox, I would like to know if I can now start taking the Spicy food.
4. Can I travel out if the blisters have dried and I have scabs on the body.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The infectivity period of chicken pox is 4 days prior to the appearance of the rash until 5 days after the rash first appeared.

It varies but the lesions should start to fall off within the next 2 to 3 days.
You can take a bath and there is no bar on eating spicy food.
You can travel outside , although prolonged sun exposure should be avoided for the time being.

Trim your nails , try to remain in a cool area and apply calamine lotion for the time being as general symptomatic treatment.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback doctor.
One of the Scab looks like a open wound as shown in the attached pic (Scab.pdf). Can I put water on it while taking bath or do I need to avoid it as it looks like open wound as shown in the pic.

Hello again.

You can put water on it. Water will not worsen the wound. Avoid shampoo or soaps and try to keep it clean with a topical povidone swab twice a day and topical Neosporin ointment at night.

Thanks Doctor. So, as all the blisters have now turned into scabs and few of them already fell so amI still having chances of getting complications like pneumonia or encephalitis?
or should i consider that my immune system is again strong.

Thanks,
XXXX

Actually I am feeling that my body is hot since yesterday but my temperature is normal when checked by Thermometer, Hence I am little worried if it is normal in Chicken pox as I am still recovering or if it is some other problem.

Hello again

By now there is almost no possibility of developing such complications. The infection has resolved. Of there is no documented fever then there is no need to worry about the hot sensations. Take adequate fluids and monitor the resolution of the opened up skin area.

Thanks
