Question: I am a 64 year old female and was diagnosed with scabies last Wednesday Feb 15 by my dermatologist. I immediately started the 5% Permethrin cream and the next morning took 5 Ivermectin 3mg tablets and will repeat treatment again on March 1. This morning I see very small scabby spots in a line on my right arm where the itching is the greatest. I use Sarna for the itching. Should I go back to my doctor on Monday? I have washed everything in hot water as directed and sent everything else to the dry cleaners. Does it take 3-4 days for these meds to work. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Ok

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on HealthcareMagic.
I completely sympathise with your condition .Scabies is a horrible problem to deal with .
It is good you took the whole course of medications. Don't worry they have already started acting .
But the whole body would have reacted to the infection and takes time to settle down with the histamine release and itching.
Continue to use the anti allergic powder you are using .
The whole infection takes 2 to 7 weeks to settle down completely.
Hope this helps
Best wishes

I have been having a troubling skin condition that has been diagnosed as scabies. I have been prescribed Permethrin 5% twice, which helped temporarily, but the symptoms always return afterwards. I have small white and red worm like objects all over me. They are particularly bad in vagina, on nipples, hands, feet, butt, back, ears, lips, and nose. I can feel them moving at times, but I m hopeful that things have improved bc I feel them less often now. They cause a crawling, itchy sensation at night that keeps me awake. There have also been random swollen areas on me which seem to be disappearing. There was one on my left earlobe, above my eye, on my neck, and under my toe. My vagina also had a blue/grey color on the left side which has slowly disappeared. After the permethrin my skin seems to be shedding in white pieces. Every time I use the bathroom more and more come off. I m just worried this may not be scabies because the symptoms still remain and the small white threads seem to keep coming off and I want it to stop. Not sure it whatever it is is dying, or growing. I have also been taking vitamins, using Black African soap when showering, and using dicatemous earth on skin. This condition has also caused several open sores on my skin and also swollen pimple like eruptions along my hairline. Thanks for any help-I m just hoping someone can figure out this mystery.

I am trying to identify red spots that have been appearing all over my body over the last week or so. I thought at first they were ant bites, but I have not been around any ants today and they are still appearing. My husband is also getting them....

My grandma got some kind of contagious bugs that can t be seen about 10 years ago. She transferred them to my parents and sister by being in their home, cars, touching, etc. They used permethrin, dandruff shampoo, etc. If you got to them right away you could wash them away with a shower and washing your clothes. However they spread through my parents house where my sister lives and she can t get rid of them. My mom sent a fur trimmed coat over here 5 years ago and it stayed in the closet until I put it on March 23, 2014. I felt all itchy and was worried I had bugs but my sister said she didn t think the bugs could live 5 years. She and my parents knew they could live a couple of years on washed blankets that were stored away in a garbage bag because they had gotten infected that way. Anyway I for sure have them from the coat and it s been 1 month. My other sister caught them from me 3 weeks ago. My house and car keep re infecting me even though we steam everything we can all the time. I ve used permethrin 31/2 tubes and AM VERY SICK FROM IT. I just got re infected on Easter by running the vacuum the 1st time since the initial cleanup. My family has misled me on what kills them like vinegar, dandruff shampoo, hair dye and cattle spraying my house and car. Help! What can live w/o a host that long. I feel as though I have resistant Norwegian scabies but everything says they can only go 36 hours w/o a host. Can they feed off of shed skin cells and off the fur ruff leather? How do I know what they are and how do I eradicate them from all my papers, books, and every nook and cranny?
