Question: My 1 year old baby is suffering from runny nose for last 4 days. We have initially started with Homeopathy but after 3 days we started giving her the below medicines
1) T-mimic (5 ml 2 times)
2) Ambrodil (5ml 3 times)
3) Nesoclear (3 times 2 drops on each side)
4) Otrinoz-Pediatric (0.05% Xylometazoline) Nasal drops. (2 drops , 1 time at night)

but this is not of much help as the mucus is clotted and she cant breath well at night while lying down or taking any liquid. Her urine also get reduced.

How many times can I give her Nasoclear in a day and what is the dosage?

Can i give her Otrinoz-Pediatric (0.05% Xylometazoline) Nasal drops.
in the medicine it is written that it can be given to children of 2 years and above... My baby's weight is 16 kg. Is the medicine suitable for her?And if i give her Otrinoz-Pediatric (0.05% Xylometazoline) Nasal drops what will be the doses? Will Xylometazoline cause any hard to my 1 year old baby?

We are giving her vapour with Carbol Plus drops in it. Is it safe?

Is T Mimic and Ambrodil making her mucus clot? Should we give her some other medicine?

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation a few times a day works wonders in such cases

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic as well as for choosing to ask me directly.

I have gone carefully through the question. Usually runny nose is a condition associated with the allergic reaction of a cough and cold. You need not panic about it. It is frequently due to a viral infection. Usually such infections are self limiting and last for 5-7 days and then subside on their own. Hence it is not expected that you would see a response in 3 days. I would try to answer your queries one by one:
* The most of the medicines are available in drops as well as syrup form. The dose is different for the two. The mentioned dosages are likely to be for the syrup and not the drop form. Make sure that you are giving the right one.
* Nasoclear is saline nasal drops. It helps in diluting the nose block that is often present when a child catches cold. Children of this age are nose breathers and nasal blockage can make them restless and gasping for breath. Nasoclear relieves the blockage and hence provides relief. It can be given 1-2 drops in each nostril whenever you feel required. There is no restriction in the number of times you can apply it. It is safe.
* If Nasoclear does not help, xylometazoline or Otrinoz-Pediatric drops may be given. It is a nasal decongestant and should not be given more than 2-3 times a day. It is otherwise safe to be given to a child of this age and would not be hard for your baby and you need not worry about the label instructions.
* T-minic contains phenylephrine which is a antihistamine and decongesant syrup for pediatric usage. It takes care of the allergic component and hence provides relief. It will not make the mucus clot.
* Steam helps in diluting the mucus. Water in the form of vapour dilutes the mucus and thereby provides relief. Carbol Plus just adds a smell to it but is not contributory to the action. Although safe, I would not recommend giving Carbol Plus. I would however, definitely recommend giving steam inhalation a few times a day. Ambrodil contains ambroxol which is a mucolytic. If you are giving steam inhalation, it becomes secondary but would not harm if given. It will not make her mucus clot. It works in the opposite direction.
* Reduced urinary output usually indicates that the child is not feeding adequately. Including plenty of fluids and giving increased amount of diet usually takes care of the matter.
* Look out for the activity level of the baby. If the baby becomes lethargic, you would need to take the child to a doctor without delay.

Hope that helps.

Thanks doctor for your advice.
I have also visited a general pediatrician locally just to check if my daughters chest is clear. Doctor confirmed that her chest is clear.
However instead of T-mimic doctor suggested Maxtra and asked me to stop Ambrodil as there is not cough symptom.
I am attaching the prescription for you review and final advice.
Many thanks

Brief Answer:
You can follow your doctor's advice.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back. I have checked the attached prescription and indeed there is no issue if you give Maxtra. It is an antiallergic and would perhaps be better than T-minic in this case. If there is no cough, you need not give Ambrodil. I have already explained the rationale and you can feel free to fine tune according to the situation.
