Suggest Treatment For Restless Legs Syndrome

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2017
Question: I am having extreme bouts of restless leg (i.e., from 3-6 am and two hours during the day). In addition, I am having episodes everyday of cramps in many parts of my body (i.e.; legs, toes, calves, both hands at the same time, both hips etc.) My cholesterol is typically very low...total of around 150 with good cholesterol high. I drink lots of liquids, 1/2 of which is water. I am on two blood pressure medicines resulting in good numbers...120 over 70. I take Bumex (Sp?) and Potassium Chloride prescribed by a nephrologist. I have had both knees replaced about 14 years ago... they seem to be doing fine. I have a frozen right shoulder which can't be operated on because I weigh more than the 'chair/table' will allow. Obviously, that means I am 'morbidly obese'. I am 74 years old.
Saying all this, I wonder if my triglycerides are 'out of wack'. If so, what is the treatment for that?

Brief Answer:
Could be vit D Deficiency or Electolyte imbalance.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion your cramps could be caused by lack of Vit D in your body. The other common cause would be electrolyte imbalance. I suggest you get S Vit d and S Electrolyte blood tests. Also start Vit D Supplementation. If S Electrolytes are not normal , then treatment would depend on the findings. It is good that your cholesterol is normal and your BP is normal. Since you are not taking statins, them as cause of your body cramps/ pain is ruled out.
Thanx for the question . Please feel free to ask any other question.
