default
Posted on Tue, 17 Jun 2014
Question: I recently had a large kidney stone (staghorn0 removed. there are still pieces of stone. Am now taking an antibiotic for urinary tract infection. Have had several infections in the past and on Dec. 30th had surgery on a kidney which was full of pus. Consequently was in the hospital for 16 days while doctors were trying to get rid of the infection. My urologist takes x-rays often. Do they indicate whether or not I have another kidney infection?

Brief Answer:
You have residual stones with infection.(UTI)

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you had kideny stone (Staghorn) Calculus )which was removed by probably by a procedure called PCNL.and has few more residual stones in kidney with UTI.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Is urine culture done ?
2) What are the size of residual stone ?
3) Is there stent kept in ureter.?
If the stones are small they will pass down in couple of days .However if they are large you may need to fragment these stones by ESWL(Extra Corporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy)
lease follow the directions of urologist as these are known complications with large staghorn stones.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,
I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
