Suggest Treatment For Red Rashes On Upper Body

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: I have been getting a flat itchy red rash on trunk and upper extremities off and on for about 8 months now. I have been trying to find a source, but up until the last three days I have been unable to. The one thing I know causes it now is beer. The issue is I have gotten it at times I was not drinking. What is more likely, that I have developed add allergies as an adult, or that my liver might not be working 100% and it's pushing toxins through my skin?

Brief Answer:
Urticarial rash , Kindly provide pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern regarding your skin problem and I hope I am able to help you in the same.
From the description you have provided,it looks like you have developed chronic urticaria which is basically an allergic skin rash .
Such a rash can occur as an allergic response to any foodstuff or medicine or any body infections.
I would like to have a look at the exact skin condition.
Please click some close up pictures of the affected area and upload them here on this page.
Also please tell what all medicines are you taking since last few months .Any pain killers or antibiotics?
Any cold cough ,urine or abdomen infections in the recent months ?

I am sure I will be able to help you better once you provide me the pictures along with the above details.

It comes and goes within hours sometimes even less. Because of the fast dissapearance i have no pictures and i am not curently having a reaction. I am taking paxil 40mg daily and .5 mg xanax xr daily. Both for anxiety and i have been on them for years. I am a heavy drinker by medical standards, but not an alcoholic. I can not remember any infection per se and have not taken any antibiotics or pain meds in a long time. A few eeeks ago i ate a lot if shrimp and my urine smelled very foul for several hours after, but then it resolved. The rash itself is flat, but does have pink bumps in it at times. A lot of the time it will have a lacy look as well. I could not describe it as hivey.

Brief Answer:
Allergic rash ,needs regular treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Thanks for the details .
You are basically developing chronic urticarial rash .
This rash tends to come up spontaneously at times and then disappears completely within hours .
You need to regularly start with some oral antihistamines to control the body allergy .
You can start with tablet loratidine once daily at night .
You might need to take these antihistamines for months together to control the allergy completely .
Also if you notice that the rash tends to increase after intake of some specific food stuffs or drinks ,then you might have to stop that particular agent .
In case ,you tend to develop episodes of development of rash even while on antihistamines, then you might either require an increase in dose or a short course of oral steroids .For that you will have to see your local doctor .
In some resistant cases ,a blood analysis is also required to try and find out the cause of allergy .

Hope it helps

Brief Answer:
Need to find the cause of macular rash

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached pictures .
You surely have an allergic skin rash but it is a macular rash and not an urticarial one .
But the line of treatment remains the same.
Such a rash is more likely to be associated with body allergies or internal infections .
So follow the treatment as advised for four weeks .
If however ,you still continue to develop the rash ,get a complete blood examination and see your nearby doctor .
