Suggest Treatment For Red Rashes On The Arms Along With Muscular Pain

Question: 41 year-old male. Healthy. History of genital herpes well controlled with medication....no outbreaks for years.

One week ago, had pimple in armpit and groin...worried about MERSA infection. Went to ER and given 2 antibiotics. Pimples small with no "pointing" and no need for I and D. Resolved over few days, but one day after taking antibiotics started getting bilateral severe shoulder and wrist pain. Muscle soreness. Over the week....knee pain but shoulder pain easing. All antibiotics stopped. No fever. No respiratory or GU symptoms.

Went back to ER yesterday. Just muscle pain. MD said flu symptoms common now with no respiratory signs...just body ache. Feeling better, but today got generalized red rash on arms and torso. No itching. Had blood panel in ER yesterday....all blood within normal limits. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be a viral infection.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. I do not think that the pimple has any association either with the history of genital herpes or the bodyache. The bodyache is likely to be associated with a simple viral infection although it could also be due to overstraining of muscles. I would insist you not to worry. Take paracetamol or acetaminophen when needed. It should be fine in a few days.

Blood tests would not reveal anything in case of a viral infection.

Thank you Doctor. The rash is just part of the viral infection? By the way, the rash seems to be subsiding. Thank you again.
