Question: I am 69, wf. I have a very red, swollen second toe on my left . It almost looks like one of those little smokie wieners in size. Cannot bend it. it is very sore..almost looks like a red blister next to the nail...but extending the lengh of the toe. today it even feels swollen underneath into the pad under my foot. I am concerned..I have had injections for nuroma years ago, no issues since....I am on a trip and wont be back home until the weekend. is this something that can wait until I get home?

Brief Answer:
Could be cellulitis infection. Needs to be seen by a primary care physician

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

You could be having infection of the toe due to ingrown nail or other infectious causes leading to cellulitis.

Keep it clean and dry. Avoid sweat or water accumulation in the region. Avoid snug or tight footwear.

I wouldn't suggest we wait. Based on what you described, it would be best to show to a primary care physician to prevent spread of infection which can be worse.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Brief Answer:
Apply antibiotic ointment and you may wait

Detailed Answer:
Yes. If the condition doesn't get worse you can wait. Do apply antibiotic ointment like Bactroban on it till then and maintain strict hygiene.
