Question: My three year old ran up behind up as I was sitting back, and while looking thru binoculars over his eyes, my head hit the binoculars and it pushed the binoculars into his eye and nose part of his face. I through I heard a crack but it could have been the binoculars since it was the plastic kids kind. He cried when it happened and then he seemed fine. Since he was gone to bed and I got to take a closer look and he was mild swelling under his right eye and the outside of the right side of his nose. No bleeding or no cuts or scratches. The inside of his lower eye lid is really red and slightly swollen looking also, his eye ball itself has mild redness. He was not in no pain afterwards except soreness. He does have mild watery eyes also. Do you think he is ok or should I take him on to the emergency room?

Brief Answer:
You can wait and watch.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

In view of details I dont feel he has got any major internal injury.

Soft tissue around eyes does swell up more as compared to other part of face even with minimal trauma.

So just wait and watch for a day.If everything is fine after that, then there is no need to see doctor.

Apply cloth soaked in cold water over the region to reduce swelling.A precautionary mild antibiotic drop with mild steroid can be suggested till redness in eye subsides.

Check two things- his vision and is there any chipped off tiny fragment from the binoculars.Only thing I will be worried about is small foreign body in the eye.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.

He didnt say anything like that, he is only three so i am not sure if he would even know how to tell me but he seem to be seeing fine afterwards, he was watching cartoons and playing and we went to his grandmothers and he knew where he was and stuff so i am thinking he is seeing fine.
I asked him if he was ok and he told me he was fine.

Brief Answer:
Then it seems pretty fine.

Detailed Answer:
I was little concerned about corneal injury. But since he was fine after that it look he is alright.

Corneal injury would have caused him continuous watering , pain and feeling to rub eyes.

By chance if you have antibiotic eye drop, just for precaution put it in his eye.

No need to rush to ER, but seeing ophthalmologist tomorrow just for precaution can be wise idea.

Hope this helps. Please ask if there are doubts.Regards.
