default
Posted on Mon, 10 Apr 2017
Question: Hello sir

My 6 years kid had one seizure in January 2016 & is taking eption more than a year now. I see little behaviour changes like easy upset and less appetite and sores in left sides of mouth. Is it side effects? Please suggest

Also the reason for seizure was identified as NCC during MRI. Doctor treated with one month medicine (Zental I guess). Doubts were Edema by TB but later confirmed NCC.

Please advise

Brief Answer:
NCC

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your post on HealthcareMagic,
I do understand your pain and discomfort,

As per the clinical history is concerned, he is taking anti-epileptic medications for seizure so the problems which you have mentioned, is most likely due to the drug side effects only.

The reason of seizure has already confirmed by MRI and it is NCC. So as per present guidelines, either [Dexamethasone or Prednisolone] should be added along with Zentel which will prevent and reduce long-term seizure frequency. So please discuss this with his treating Physician/Neurologist.

For long term monitoring do follow-up MRI every 3 months and planning for further action required by next MRI report only.

Hope this helps

Thank you.

As I mentioned zentel course had been completed in October 2016. Do you still recommend the dexamethasone medicine for present?

And any further medicine to cure sores in mouth?

I attached the latest reports and it mentions no edema but a calcium spot left! Can you put some light on that? Are there chances for seizure again? Actually I'm not able to understand when it'll prove that the problem is cured?

Your guidance will be a help

Hi,

Thanks for your follow up questions

As per your question for mouth ulcers -please give him a multivitamin containing [vitaminB-12,Zinc, Folate or iron]

Avoid chocolate, strawberries, spicy or acidic foods

Avoid tooth pastes containing [sodium lauryl sulfate]

wash mouth with [hydrogen peroxide]mouth wash

Do a physical examination time to time by your local doctor

Secondly you have to talk with your treating doctor to repeat the course albendazole along with Dexamethasone for one month to prevent any further inflammation and recurrence of seizures.

Thirdly the calcified spot means it is the area of inflammation of cyst which has been calcified over time.

Whether there is a chance of seizure in future or not it depends upon your follow up MRI only, if any possibility dose exist it can be managed as per epileptic syndrome so nothing to be worried about it.

He will be 100% cured i believe.

Hope that helps

Hi,

Thanks for your follow up question

As per your question you can give any multivitamin syrup which must have iron and B-complex so talk with your local pharmacist.

Daburlal tooth paste is very nice and it is natural also so he can use it twice a day

Talk with your doctor regarding medication with addition of Praziquantel along with albendazole

Lastly that calcified spot will go away as he grows and if it creates neuro deficit then surgically it will be repaired without any problem. So clinical examination is required every month.

So nothing to be worried at all,

Hope that helps
