Brief Answer:
Recurrent Diarrhea and Management

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following points are worth mentioning prior to advise management, which I usually follow in my clinic with my patients of diarrhea [specially if the case is recurrent]

1. for recurrent cases I usually recommend the following step wise approach [ since it is unlikely to cause recurrent diarrhea unless there are repeated new infections]

. amoebic dysentry is extremely common in XXXXXXX for which anti amoebic drugs are given as prophylaxis, and going by your IP Address [Malaysia], hopefully it is not a concern there, but you should go/ask for Stool examination [Microscopic] to narrow the diagnosis.

PS. NZ [nitazoxanide] is used to treat diarrhea in children and adults caused by protozoa, or do let me know whether NZ is some other drug

. Gastro. colic reflex [running to latrine after meals] may be physiological, so if investigation comes normal, leave it alone.

. if associated with anorexia, loss of weight [present], one should have folllowing things in mind:
. Opinion of Gastroenterologist
. Stool examination
. Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy
. K.U.B. X-ray and barium enema

2. If motions are watery make sure to check with parameters like pulse, blood pressure and degree of dehydration with your doctor's help. If those are normal, try the following:

. Plenty of water, liquids, orolyte, old brown rice, porridge [without milk], moong/masoor dal,pomegranate,bottle gourd,honey,cumin,black tea,ganji,butter milk,biscuits,overripe banana,coconut water,fruit juices,soft diet,soft rice,idli
. avoid fatty food,oil,ghee,raw vegetables,over eating, refined flour,peas,chick pea XXXXXXX fruit,beans,long cucumber,cucumber,pumpkin,almonds,green grapes, alcohol,day time sleeping,smoking,anger,milk and milk products.

3. Mix 3 pinch cumin seeds powder and 3 pinch sea salt in 1 cup curd and eat daily for 14 days.

Do revert back for any clarifications/concerns so that Treatment Aspect can be initiated.

1. I have taken Metronidazole 5 days course, Opinion of Gastroenterologist already taken here, he did not specify any lab examination, only asked to get admitted for 3 days, to keep me nil oral and heal gastric mucosa, but I can not take hospital admission here hence avoided his advise

2. Dr had suggested for same Do's and Dont's in diet and I am following

Main thing is sometimes stool is watery and since yesterday I am feeling constipated. Main worry is weakness, it is hindering my daily schedule
sorry to bother you again, I am also taking cultured milk like Yakult, once daily and one tab of prebiotic daily
Do I still need cumin seed+sea salt with curd?

Brief Answer:
Check for vital signs and Treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for reverting back

1. since opinion is/was taken from Gastroenterologist, thus he must have given due consideration in taking up your case and examining with his clinical skills and senses, but as routine check with investigations as described earlier to alleviate your anxiety.

2. If you are felling weak, thus check with your blood pressure, pulse and degree of dehydration, since when motions are watery, dehydration can occur very rapidly and may require hospitalization and large amounts of I.V. [intra venous] fluids.

3. Follow the Do's and Dont's as described. also if diarrhea is there avoid multivitamins/glucose

4. Cumin seed with sea salt is given as home remedy, which one can made if other options are not available, and since you have 'yakult' with you, continue the same as it is also easy to carry.

5. Prescription and result oriented medicine which I usually prescribe to my patients [after thorough examination] is/are: XXXXXXX churan, tablet diarex, lavan XXXXXXX churan, kutja arishta/babool arishta.

PS. at home rice gruel/coconut water/banana with curd are excellent for you, but if diarrhea persists one has to give rest to his intestine, and for that hospitalization is must.
