Suggest Treatment For Rashes On The Face

Question: Hi,
I'm not sure how well you can see the rash on the face, its minute but its all over on my left cheek to my upper lip. There are little white bumps on my upper lip too that are just plain rough to feel. Usually I get this rash exactly 3 days after eating shrimp, and with some citirizine it goes away in another 4-5 days. But this time it has been a month and it has slowly sprouted up again, I'm away from any decent dermatologist for a while (as I'm doing an internship) and wouldn't like to take chances with someone less qualified. I'm concerned if the rash is due to parasites or something, please help! I've started to feel very conscious about it; I havent had any grooming done on my face fearing it may affect the rash. Also, I haven't used any new cosmetics on my face. No new facial products either. Kindly suggest some easily available medication till I can go back home :(

Brief Answer:
You seem to be allergic to shrimps and prawns.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through the details and have checked the images. Since I know, I can make out the rashes. The rashes seem to be due to allergic reaction to shrimp and hence avoiding shrimp intake would be advisable. Since you have mentioned the correlation with shrimp, I do not think that you need to worry about other causes like parasites and fungal infections. Cetirizine is an antiallergic and taking a tablet once daily for a few days should provide relief. You can apply some emollient like calamine lotion or aloe vera lotion. It would have a soothing effect. I do not think that any other medication is required.
Hope that helps.

Thank-you so much Doctor :) How long and how many pills do you recommend? I've been taking Okacet. Also, I'm terribly allergic to aleo-vera. So will Calamine suffice? Secondly, is it enough to apply it night?
I'm just puzzled by the fact that the rash came back after declining so much. Usually it goes away completely after 6-7 days XXXXXXX after taking them.
Also, are the rough little white bumps/rash on my upper lip due to the same reason?
Thankyou again :)

Brief Answer:
Okacet is cetirizine.Calamine lotion will suffice.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
Okacet contains Cetirizine which is available over the counter without a prescription. Taking it for 3-4 days should be fine, no problems if you take it for a few more days too. Calamine lotion would suffice and there is no reason to use aloe vera if you are allergic to it.
There is no reason for the specific disposition of the rash. I do not think that there is any way to predict it. It could be that the lips and areas of lower face are sensitive and hence the rash there.
Hope that helps.
