Suggest Treatment For Rapid Weight Loss, Stomach Pain And Dehydration In A Diabetic

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Aug 2016
Question: I have type 1 diabetes and recently developed a blockage of food, causing rapid weight loss, stomach pain, diarrea, foot numbing, dehydration, and dizziness, which cause me to fall. I have trouble concentrating sometimes. I'm scared I'm going to die from starvation, even though I'm eating and drinking, and then have to go to the bathroom immediately. I'm taking an antibiotic (from dr.,), and regalin and a "wait and see" mode. Could I have a gluten intolerance, or worse, ciliac disease. They could not do the endoscopy because of the blockage

Brief Answer:
Some probable causes;

Detailed Answer:

Hello and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully your concern.

The most probable cause of the symptoms you prescribed is autonomic neuropathy, a chronic complication of the Diabetes, especially of type 1.

It may be manifested with GI disturbances (e.g., esophageal enteropathy, gastroparesis, constipation, diarrhea, and fecal incontinence).

Other causes of the symptoms you prescribed may be autoimmune diseases that affect the adrenal gland causing XXXXXXX disease I.e. low cortisol level and often is manifested with weight loss and diarrhea.

Celiac disease is also an autoimmune disease ( like type 1 Diabetes and XXXXXXX disease) that should be excluded.

You may discuss with your treating doctor about the above-mentioned causes. Clinical examination ( blood pressure measuring in lying position and standing up, heart rate, pupil examination etc) is very important to make the diagnosis in these cases.

Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
