Suggest Treatment For Raised Red Bumps On Arms, Upper Thighs, Back And Torso

Posted on Thu, 1 Oct 2015
Question: it seems my daughter is having an allergic reaction to something, we think maybe an insect bite. she is not itching, but she has raised red bumps on her arms, upper thighs, and especially her back and torso. we gave her benidryl this morning when she woke up with it and it seemed to go away. it has now returned and we just gave her a second dose. Does this require medical attention tonight, or is it OK to take her in tomorrow morning? no fever, no soreness or headache, but her toe is a little swollen and red, and she looks like she either has a mosquito or ant bit at the upper part of her back.

Brief Answer:
Obseeve the child and continue giving benadryl

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the details and to me it appears to be some allergic reaction.
I would like to know if you can remember any recent introduction of new food item, new cloth or exposure to anything which could have cause this reaction.
Benadryl contains an antiallergic and it should provide relief.
I won't get worried if she is active, passing urine, there is no pain abdomen, massive swelling of lips or face and there is no breathing problem.
I would like to observe the child for any swelling in the face or respiratory difficulty and continue benadryl.
If swelling persists/recur again or there is any other symptom, please get her clinically evaluated by a physician for need of steroid.
I would request you to attach an image so that I better able to help you out.

Wishing for your child's speedy recovery.
Regards

this is her back one hour after benidryl. it seems to have gotten worse. no new food, detergent, or anything. I washed her bed sheets last week, but this came on last night. she had an itch under her arm that looked like a bug bite last night. I applied cortisone cream on it before she went to bed. she woke up with raised bumps on her chest and stomach area, with some on her upper thigh and arms. now with this dose of benydryl, it doesn't look like it has done anything at all.

I completely understand your concern.
I have gone through the images and details.
It is urticaria (allergic skin reaction). It can be due to insect allergy.Waxing and waning course during intially few days is common in most of the cases.
Again I won't get overly worried if baby is active, feeding well and there are no associated symptoms.

I suggest you to continue cortisone (steroid ) and benadryl (antiallergic ) and consult a physician for clinical evaluation, need of oral steroid and to alleviate your anxiety.

I hope this helps.
Wish your baby good health.
Regards
