Suggest Treatment For Radiating Back Pain

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2015
Question: Yes for past 6 weeks or so I have been waking up every morning with specific pain on right side of my mid back radiating from about my lower rib about a hand span around. At first I thought it was muscular or back related. Now I'm starting to worry that it's a kidney infection. What is weird is only occurs after laying in bed for long periods like after sleeping at night .

Brief Answer:
It can be due to nerve compression

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case and I think that this can be due to nerve compression in spine. Kidney infection causes fever, burning during urination and increase frequency of urination. As you are not having these problems so kidney infection is unlikely. Pain occurring on lying for long hours suggest that it is due to nerve compression.

I would suggest you to follow these steps.
1. Get MRI of the spine to confirm compression of root. Disc herniation can cause such pain.
2. Tablet pregabalin and methyl cobal daily. These are effective for nerve compression pain.
3. Hot water fomentation. Local application of voltaren gel.
4. Steroid injection in spine can be given to block that root if tablets are not effective.

I hope this answer will be useful for you.

Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
