Question: Hello Doctor,
My brother having skin problem (SWARISIS). could you please let me know, is there any permanent fix ?. some doctor told us for this problem there is no permanent fix, you need to take medicine whole life then this allergy will not come in your body.
could you please suggest your advice.

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
Psoriasis is an immune mediated disease. It is characterised by thick scaly plaques involving various body sites and sometimes joint pains and joint swelling. Psoriatic plaques may involve any body site but they characteristically involve the scalp, extensor aspect of extremities, lower back. Nail involvement in the form of pitting, subungual hyperkeratosis and deformity is also part of psoriasis.
Psoriasis may relapse/ return after seemingly complete cure. Factors like infection, drugs, pregnancy, winter season, alcohol and stress seem to exacerbate psoriasis. There is no need to take medicine regularly once all the patches of psoriasis have cleared i.e treatment can be completely stopped. However, since psoriasis may come back in future, retreatment may be required i.e psoriasis is treated only when psoriatic patches recur. Not otherwise.
Treatment of psoriasis includes topical steroids with salicylic acid ointment, topical vitamin D analogues like calcipotriol, coal tar with salicylic acid ointment and dithranol. Topical treatment alone suffices for limited disease.
For widespread disease oral methorexate, phototherapy, acitretin, cyclosporine, biologicals may also be combined with topical treatment.
