Suggest Treatment For Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Infection In Right Toe

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Two weeks ago I was admitted to the clinic because the doctor had to perform surgical opening of the right plantar area to drain away of purulence liquid. The doctor took culture of my right toe and the results were pseudomonas aeruginosa. My doctor advise me that my right big toe would have to be amputated after his laceration of the plantar healed. From your experience, is that a normal suggestion from similar conclusions.
Thanks for your help

Brief Answer:
If the infection cannot be controlled...Are you diabetic?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these troubling conclusions that your doctor has made. The germ alone is not a sufficient reason for amputation. However, if the germ is resistant to available antibiotics and the infection is spreading to other areas, then amputation might be the best solution to save the other parts of the leg and accelerate healing. Amputations are relatively common in diabetics with poor glucose and foot care. If you have one of these, that might have been a worsening factor. I will suggest you ask your doctor specifically about the reasons for this conclusion.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I am a diabetic but I think the laceration is healing but still too early to tell.
Thanks

Keep me posted!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The decision to amputated it the last and that only when everything else has failed. Follow up and make sure that all hope is lost before this is done.

I wish you well and keep me posted. Anytime, any day, I am ready to weigh in and make sure the decisions are the right ones. If you could send an image of this toe to me, I will get back to you with more insights.

Thanks.
