Suggest Treatment For Prostatitis

Question: Hi Dr. Puri, I have recently been diagnosed with Prostatitis. I had pain in my abdomen, and my penis and scrotum and anus were very painful. Folliculitis has appeared on the inside of my legs (groin area) I was put Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for a month which I have complete now. Most of the pain is gone except for some pain in the penile shaft. The head of my penis continues to be irritated with small bumps on the skin, some clear and some black. Had very painful testicles for two weeks but pain has improved. No pain with urination. I have been tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and hiv, all negative. I also have very swollen and dark veins on my penile shaft. These are new appearing over the last two to three weeks. Almost as if new veins (spider like) are growing and attaching to the regular veins on my penis. They are tender and sometimes painful. Are there any other std's or diseases I should be tested for? I've seen a GP and a urologist, both barely examined me and said the bumps on the head of my penis and veins are normal. I don't believe they are. Using a steroid cream on penile head but no improvement. Any advise would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Get Semen culture done and stop Steroid cream.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Prostatitis takes a long time to be cured so do not worry.
You do not need any other tests to rule out STDs.
Your treatment is on the right lines and successful by the disappearance of your pain. I would suggest you get a Semen culture done to be sure. This will let you know whether there is any residual infection or not and whether you need to take any further antibiotics at all. It will also tell which antibiotics to take.
The vein swelling that you mention is normal. That can happen in all normal individuals.
You can stop using the steroid cream for the penile head. It will not help and only make it difficult for the infection to go.
Take care and feel free to ask any other queries that might arise.
