Suggest Treatment For Prostate And Bladder Cancer

Question: My 89-year-old husband has prostate and bladder cancer both of which were diagnosed over ten years ago. He has been given Lupron shots for many years and they were able to keep his PSA in check. Now the shots are no longer helping and his PSA is climbing. Three weeks ago his PSA climbed from 23 to 26 in three days and the doctor stopped the Lupron shots as they no longer are helping. He had 39 days of radiation when the prostate cancer was first diagnosed. We have been told he cannot have more now. He had a bonescan and the results were favorable - the cancer has not spread to his bones. Now, he wonders what can be done to keep the cancer from spreading.

Brief Answer:
Option of chemotherapy to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
I appreciate your concern for your father.
If the hormonal therapy failed to contain the cancer, then the next step to consider is chemotherapy.
You should discuss this option with his doctor and whether he would be able to tolerate it.
