Suggest Treatment For Problem In Digesting Food

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Aug 2014
Question: I have been having issues with being able to digest food without drinking water-diluted vinegar with my meals. If I don't, then I become hypoglycemic. Also, when I have even the smallest amount of food containing any amount of sugar that isn't naturally occurring, I then feel terrible for the next few days until I can recover. For weeks I was having issues with anxiety, etc, then I decided to try ingesting some vinegar before a meal, and literally AN HOUR LATER, I was feeling like my old self, again. Do you have any advice for this? Is it some sort of bacterial/parasitic infection? I went and saw my PCP, who is an internist, but he didn't really have an answer for me. I am currently on a vegetable-fruit-meat diet. No refined sugars, other than what is already in the food itself. Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Possible stomach issues (e.g. gastritis or GERD)..

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

You are saying that you become hypoglycemic after your meals. Can you provide some of the symptoms you are feeling at that moment? Have you measured your blood sugar at that moment? Can you provide the results (range if possible)?

To my opinion, based on what you are saying, you might be having problems with reflux/GERD or gastritis if blood sugar is within normal range after meals.

If you are not having fever, diarrhea or other signs, then, what you are experiencing is not related to any bacterial/parasitic infection. However, to rest assured, I advise to run examination of stool for ova/parasites.

I advise to :
- take antacids after having your meals
- take PPIs (e.g. omeprazole)
- try to eat often and small portions
- try to cope with stress; each time you get stressed, the problems you are having will be aggravated.

Looking forward to have the requested data in!
