Suggest Treatment For Pressure Sensation In The Crotch Area

Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hello. I've asked you a few questions before. I'll be 34 weeks on Monday with my first and I noticed today that I have some pressure in my crotch area. I did get checked on Wednesday because I was having some menstrual like cramping and they monitored me for about 30 min and checked my cervix and all seemed fine, so sent me home. I've had pelvic aches and discomfort but I think it feels more like pressure, but I'm also scaring myself a lot. It's been a rough week of fears and I don't want to be scared. Is this a normal feeling with 6 weeks to go? I'm not spotting or anything and he's moving.

Brief Answer:
Explained..

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Yes, I remember you, and it is nice to hear from you.
At 34 weeks, your pelvis is preparing in a way for imminent labour in a few weeks' tie.
Mild cramps and aches are normal as term approaches.
However, there should not be a constant sensation of pressure.
You have had an internal exam , and all was well.
What you would be really worried about, and me too, is the risk of possible preterm labour.
That can be ruled out to a great extent by a vaginal exam, which you had.
THe other thing that can be done is an ultrasound scan that assesses the cervix - whether it has shortened, softened, loosened or opened up.
So please get that done.
If that too is normal, you do not have any reason to worry.
It is normal to feel anxious, particularly around this time, please relax.
I know it is easier said than done, but the worst case scenario is, even if your boy is born now, he has more than 90 % chances of survival.
That should make you feel better.
SO just get the scan done, and we will know where you stand.
Also, take a lot of rest, do not ignore the symptoms, but do not get alarmed.
If the scan shows any ominous signs, you can start taking progesterone supplements, they help to prevent against preterm labour.
Hope this helps you.
You can reach out to me anytime that you wish to.
I wish you best of health.
Let me know what happens next.
Take care.

The nurse told me my cervix was closed, long and hard still when she checked it. Would that be good enough reason to not be concerned? The pressure feeling, which is the only way I can describe it was when I was sitting down. When I got up and was walking, I didn't notice it really, if at all. Thoughts on these two things?

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
As I said, the comprehensive evaluation should include an internal exam plus an ultrasound scan.
You have had the internal exam, which was fine, now you should have the scan.
If that is fine, I would say do not be concerned.
It is a positive sign if the pressure is not there on walking and getting up.
It is good, but I insisted on the scan so that you can definitively put the worry out of your mind.
Take care.
