Question: I was lifting a heavy object and experienced what looked like about 20 to 30 transparent worms squiggling thru my vision that lasted about 30 seconds then faded away. a year ago I had the same thing happen after coughing really hard. the best I can describe it was small transparent lines moving in the fashion of worms. I could still see everything else I was looking at but the "worms" alarmed me... I am familiar with black dot floaters and it definitely was not that. should I be alarmed? thankyou

Brief Answer:
Floaters after straining like lifting weight and coughing.

Detailed Answer:
These are indeed classical description of floater. You said you are already acquainted with floaters and these are not. Why do you think so? Have you had different type of floaters in the past? Are you myopic. Can you provide detailed history and exact duration since have floaters.

In my opinion these are floaters and you should have indirect ophthalmoscopy. It is to cover wider area and to observe for holes tear and peripheral detachment. If indirect ophthalmoscope is clear, then the examination to be repeated after 6 months.

Hope this answers your question.
