Posted on Tue, 6 Jun 2023
Question: Have a tingling pain in the urethra. Got this condition I think due to straining to pass urine after having a laxative with polyethylene glycol. Pain is in the form of pin pricks or tingling while passing urine or in between urination. Condition has lasted over 3 weeks now. Took urimax and now taking citralka and may take some urine tests this week . Please advise on the potential issue and any recommended treatment.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to inflammation of urethra (Urethritis)

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Based on the facts that you have posted, the tingling sensation in the urethra that you have could be mostly due to inflammation of the urethra (Urethritis).

I shall be happy if you can post more details to help me in making precise comments:
1) What is your age?
2) Are you a diabetic?
3) Do you have any other obstructive voiding symptoms like poor urine stream, hesitancy, nocturnal frequency etc?
4) Why was Urimax prescribed by your doctor?
5) Did you have unprotected sex or oral sex very recently?

Please revert to me and I shall be happy to address your issues precisely.

Thank you.

Not Diabetic
No unprotected or oral sex recently
Had some sense of incomplete urination and need to urinate frequently earlier on when I first had the issue but this has improved significantly over the past few weeks

Urimax was prescribed since doc suspected prostate was enlarged- ultrasound had ruled out that issue

Now on citralka and doc has asked for urine test with microscopic examination

Mainly have the tingling sensation now while passing urine and / or after- not very consistent but it is there most of the time.

Brief Answer:
Get a routine test and urine culture done

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Tingling sensation in the urethra is mostly due to inflammation of the urethra. Take antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin and anti-inflammatory drug like Diclofenac twice daily. It should get resolved within two weeks.

Hope I have answered your query.

Thank you.
