Suggest Treatment For Persistent Vomiting

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Nov 2016
Question: Hi. I have been vomiting for the past three hours, about every 15 minutes. I am now vomiting bile (yellow). I ate shrimp for dinner and I think I may have food poisoning. My question is, at what point should I seek medical care? Should I go to a 24-hour clinic? I can't seem to keep down liquids. I've taken no medication and I have no known allergy.

Brief Answer:
If you continue vomiting more then 8 episodes of vomiting then go to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

It is normal to have around 7-8 vomiting episodes during a food poisoning. You should start to feel better after that, but you may continue with diarrhea.

It is important to drink small amounts of fluids (1 sip every 5 minutes) but often, so you wont stimulate the stomach and causes again vomiting. It is ok to not have appetite during this time.
Adults in your age very rarely get dehydrated to that point to not keep fluids down. But if you have more then 8 episodes of vomiting and you are not keeping fluids down then that is the time when you should consider going to the ER so they can give you IV rehydration.
Don't take any medication for the moment except the fluids.

Let me know how is the situation when you get this answer back.

Hope this is helpful.
