Suggest Treatment For Persistent Vomiting

Question: I have been having problems with profuse and unrelenting vomiting. this is my second time this year
First time was in February. I had never been attacked with vomiting so bad in my life. I went to the hospital. They said they thought I had gastrointestinal virus. I should be fine in a week. I wasn't. I went to my family doctor. She gave me a Cocktail hoping it would help, it didn't. She tried to set me up with a specialist who initially wouldn't see me because my Obama Care was not final. (meaning I didn't have insurance-which I still have not been able to get straight. they keep telling me they will call me back in 5 to 7 days to resolve the issue. But they never call so I call back and they tell me to wait again. has been going this way since March 18, 2014) My mom ended up calling the specialist and told them somebody needed to do something to help me before I died of this sickness. They finally said they would see me if I brought $100.00 on the day of my visit. I was by then too weak to drive so my father took me. They drew blood, and sent me home. I came back a week later for them to tell me that all the blood work came back fine. The doctor assistant asked what she prescribed me the week before, I told her nothing. She seemed shocked she hadn't. She prescribed me another kind of Cocktail. I had a hard time swallowing these pills. Finally at the end of the 3rd week I stopped vomiting. I had a week of diarrhea that followed, then I was fine until I got a tooth pulled on 7/22/14. Starting the day after the tooth was pulled, I started getting hot, then cold, then both at the same time. Then the vomiting came again. Not as profusely as before, but just as unrelenting. I am now starting into my 3rd week of vomiting again. Counting both sicknesses I have lost a total of 24 pounds. Who looses that much weight from a gastrointestinal virus? Why was I sick 3 WEEKS while others diagnosed with the same thing were only sick 3 DAYS! And how on earth could I be sick with a virus for 3 weeks and no one else in the house catch it?

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I am sorry for the situation you are in.

You are right. Your vomiting issue should be further investigated. Other serious problems should be ruled out.

If I was your caring doctor and as long as blood work resulted fine, then, I would like to have more information regarding your vomiting:
- is it after eating any specific food or after drinking anything? or is it not related to anything?
- do you have nausea before vomiting or vomiting straight away?
- are you still having diarrhea?
- any other symptom: abdominal pain/bloating? problems with urinating? any vaginal discharge? headache?
- are your periods regular?
- have you measured your blood pressure? can you send me your readings?

The main goal is to exclude possible causes, that's why I need more of your medical data.

Can you also send me your test reports, so, I can analyze them myself and can guide you on further diagnostic steps?

Looking forward to have the requested data in!

-although I seem to now be lactose intolerant, there is no specific food that I've noticed that causes me to vomit more than others. I say seem lactose intolerant because sometimes I can drink a glass of milk and it will clabbour and cause me to vomit one time, run straight through another, and sometimes doesn't seem to bother me at all. I have stopped drinking it for now and only eat cheese that comes in cheese puffs. as a general rull, when I get nauseous, anything that goes down comes back up until my stomach is empty. And even after that I will keep vomiting my spit for a few more houirs until I am completely exhausted.
- I usually become very uncomfortable before vomiting and can tell it will come before it starts. almost like my stomach is doing summersaults even though I am laying still.
- Yes I still have diarrhea, Mostly in the mornings before the vomiting starts again.
-no abdominal pain/bloating, just summersaults. Urinating is at a minimal and weak. no vaginal discharge. I have had a slight nagging headache the last two days.
-I have only had one period in the last year and a half. 2010 I started having them every other month. 2011 I started having them every two months. 2012 I went my first year without one. March 2013 I had my last one.
-I have not measured my blood pressure yet. I will see can I get someone to come check that for me sometime today and send it to you.

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Organic pathologies should be ruled out first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for providing the requested medical data.

You can check your blood pressure at any local drug store or pharmacy. Ask the pharmacist to measure it for you. You can measure blood sugar too. Then, you can send the readings to me.

At this point, from what you are describing, my suspects go for possible bowel disease or GI reaction to hormonal changes during the menopause you are going through.

With regards to diarrhea you are still having, can you please specify:
- how often do you pass the stool per day?
- is the stool soften, watery or solid/semi-solid?
- have you noticed whether you are having vomiting and diarrhea all the time? or is it worse during some days (for example when it is your due date)?
- are you having problems such as breast sores?
- do you have any report of the tests you did previously?
- are you having heartburn also?

As mentioned earlier, the aim is to exclude organic problems (related to your bowel locally and/or other body organs' problems) through examination of stool for ova/parasites, culture of stool and colonoscopy.

If no organic problem is found, then, should get neurological examination.

I had e-mailed you yesterday evening, but I must have done something wrong because I didn't see a reply. I got my blood pressure checked this morning. It was 132/84. I also had a visit with my doctor and discussed the things you told me. She says that I did get the stool sample done and it was negative. She agrees that I need to have a colonoscopy done and a full GI workup. So now I have to wait for our "precious" presidents Health Care to resolve whatever computer issues they are having that is keeping them from processing my claim! It's just not fair they are keeping me sick like this with no way to get the help I need until they resolve their issues.
-I have been passing very soft stools 3 to 4 times a day.
-It is curious that I got sick the first time one Feb. 23 and this time on July 23. I vomited three weeks ending with diarrhea the first time. This time I vomited for 2 weeks and am now having diarrhea. I did not get sick at all between the two times.
-I don't have breast soreness
-they checked to see did I have the flue and did not. the stool sample that was negative. blood work for other stuff that I don't really know exactly what for but was negative. There was a CT Scan that showed nothing remarkable about my stomach, but something showed up on my hip that I was told I should have followed up on and checked out by a specialist.
- I don't have heartburn now but I do recall having quite a bit show up the week before I got sick.

Looking forward for colonoscopy records...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

This is the only message I got from you unfortunately, did not receive any other last night.

I am glad that you have set everything for colonoscopy to understand why you are having diarrhea.

Be careful with foods you eat; take proper hygienic measures.

With regards to your blood pressure, it is one measurement you did and it resulted slightly elevated but within acceptable range.

I have asked to measure your blood pressure on daily basis for 1 entire week, record the results and pass them to me or to your doctor to see if your blood pressure is really slightly elevated or not. We cannot judge only on one measurement; we need a mean blood pressure reading.

Looking forward to have the colonoscopy records in!

I finally got a call from the Insurance resolution center. Can you believe they only called because I had a complaint that telemarketers may be getting my phone number when I call them. I found out they were never gonna call me to resolve my case. They have had me waiting all these months since March. Now they say I have to wait until November 15 for the new open enrollment period. So I will have to wait another 3 to 4 months before I can get those tests going. If my sickness continues the same pattern, I will be getting sick again about that time.
Is it possible for our discussions to lie dormant till then? or do we need to close the discussion?
You have been most helpful, informative, and caring.
Thank You!!

You can always "Report a problem" to resolve this issue with competent people who will be handling you.

You can send your query directly to me and I'll be happy to assist you further.

Do not forget to :
- take good hygienic measures, especially when preparing foods
- be careful with foods you eat
- avoid foods that can provoke vomiting or diarrhea (pear, plums, sugary drinks, etc.)
- use lemon juice or smell lemon when you are nauseated

until you have the tests done.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
