Question: Dear Doctor,
I usually have a habit of sneezing in the morning when i wake up. This habit is continuing for last 1 year or so. Every morning when i wake up, I continue to sneeze again & again for 15-20 times. After some time, I get normal. Sometimes, when i sleep in the evening, and then wake up, again the same problem of sneezing some time till i get normal. Is it some kind of allergy or what? what medicines would you suggest me?

Brief Answer:
Follow the Advises..

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxx, Welcome to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Yes, as per this description, it seems like allergic manifestation only..

Are you aware of any particular allergic history (eg. dust, smoke, pollen, hair particles, any particular smell etc.) ?

Initially, after getting up, the body's immunity level and metabolism remains a bit on the lower side, so that's why it gets affected by any external source of allergens and as a protective measure those sneezing episodes tend to happen (it's a quite common presentation)..

First of all, try to narrow down the possible allergen.. keep the bed-sheets, pillow-covers routinely changed (once in every week)..

Do not expose yourself directly in front of A/C ducts, cold dry air..try to remain in fresh air as much as possible..

Stay away from any source of dust, mites, smokes etc.. avoid having cold drinks and dairy products at night time..

Inadequate sleep duration (if any) should be corrected..try to sleep for 6-8 hrs per day for better metabolism of the body..

You can have anti-allergic Tab MONTELUKAST+LEVOCETIRIZINE combination i.e. MONTEK-LC (10mg + 5mg) Once daily at bedtime for next 15 days and observe how you stay (please get the appropriate prescription from your local physician)..

Take steam inhalation twice daily (morning after getting up and night before bed time) for a week additionally and observe how you stay..

If despite following all these, still the problem persists, I'd suggest you to simply schedule an appointment with an Allergist and Immunologist for a complete check-up and comprehensive allergic panel work-up to look in to it further..
