Suggest Treatment For Persistent Shoulder Pain After An Injury

Question: Hi, I am a 42 year old female. A couple of years ago my son had jumped off some rocks and landed most of his weight on my left shoulder - trying to jump over my head in a pool. Ever since then I have had on-going pain in my shoulder and front of chest. The first sign of pain I went to the docs as the pain felt like someone had tied fitted plate to my chest (I thought it was heart related) The doctor gave me tramadol and i went to physio. Although every now and then I get some discomfort - it is only recently that the tightness in my upper chest and shoulder has returned. I am finding it hard to sleep at night due to the pain. I have an appointment with a doctor later in the week (rural living). I have a high pain threshold but this is starting to take its toll on my daily living. Any advice would be great thanks.

Brief Answer:
Can be tendonitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From the symptoms that you have described, it seems to be Rotator cuff tendonitis or shoulder impingement syndrome which causes irritation and inflammation of the rotator cuff and the bursa.
Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Motrin, ibuprofen, or Aleve can help with pain control and decrease inflammation. If these pain relievers do not work then you can take Voltarin after getting it prescribed from your doctor.
Activities that cause symptoms should be avoided. A physical therapy program that focuses on establishing non-painful shoulder motion and strengthening of the shoulder muscles will also be helpful.

I hope this answers your query.
