Question: I started having common cold symptoms about 10 days ago and went to PCP 8 days ago. Diagnosed me with " the crud" I'm still not feeling better and have green mucus and a really bad deep non-productive cough. Have I developed a bacterial sickness that can be treated with antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
probably not

Detailed Answer:

the answer is probably not... A common cold may last for many days. Sometimes it can be complicated with sinusitis and pneumonia. Sinusitis presents with headache, worsening of symptoms and perhaps also fever. Pneumonia may present with fever, worse cough and sputum production.

The color of sputum is not very important to assess the common cold and can't be used to distinguish between bacterial and viral infection.

So in conclusion, if you have symptoms like the ones I've described then medical assessment would be recommended (because a bacterial complication is likely).

Kind Regards!

I have had chest pain in my lower left lung on and off for the past 6 months or so. Before this I had pneumonia which was misdiagnosed for 6 weeks and ended up on three courses of antibiotics. I was just wondering what the chest pain is. I have lost my faith in my doctors due to being misdiagnosed for so long and would just like a reasonable answer.

My partner has cipd . He has had a range of treatments but nothing seems to help for any length of time. He has had the condition for over ten years . The condition has affected his body in many ways, from lose of motor skills, to eye sight, to breathing difficulties, to pneumonia. Today he collapsed with chest pain and he is back in hospital. When first diagnosed he was told he had Gillian Barre but now it is cipd. His specialists have told me that his condition is chronic. How much worse can it get!!!!! I need to somehow prepare myself for the worst but hope for the best. Please help us.
