default
Posted on Sat, 26 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I had a bad car accident when I was 17, now at 55 I suffer with neck pain, sciatica and in the middle of my back, feels like a knife is always pushing inward. I was told I have arthritis in my neck, and scoliosis starting on the right side of my neck. I asked for a referral to see a pain specialist. My doctor wants me to get counselling, and to take tylenol3 for pain. I was rushed to hospital from fainting while working in garden, ambulance driver told me, my heart is skipping a beat. My doctor hasn't said anymore about heart beat, but it's ok to take the tylenol3. I'm very confused and afraid! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Spine MRI should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

First of all please do not be afraid. And try to relax. From your description nothing serious is happening.
Your neck pain and sciatica are caused by spine issues for sure. But this does not mean you have to live with the pain. Instead of x-rays (which do not tell anything about spinal cord) you should have spine diagnosed with MRIs. This is very important, as some changes can be repaired with the surgery so the pain wont be present anymore.
Instead of pain doctor you should see orthopedist.

If its about your faint and heart issue, you should see cardiologist for sure. You may have some heart arrhythmia. Please note that nowadays arrhythmia can be treated successfully.

And of course you can Tylenol. It is very safe medicines.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
