Suggest Treatment For Persistent High Fever

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: I had high fever upto 103.5 recently. Doctor advised me to check typhoid IgG and IgM amongst other tests. Both typhoid IgG and IgM came weakly positive. I was on Taxim o for 5 days. Fever got better in 2 days and there is no fever since last 3 days. My appetite has also improved and I am taking Roti, rice and little curry at home.
As condition is improving, I planned to resume office from tomorrow. For my own satisfaction I did the Typhoid test once again along with platelet count. This time IgM is positive and platelet count is 1.06.
Please suggest future course of medication and diet.

Brief Answer:
Wait and watch.

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I am Dr Anshul Varshney for your help.
Typhi Dot test was initially weakly positive and later it came out completely positive signifies that you have suffered from Typhoid fever.
It's not like that your test is positive so you still have Typhoid.
This test may remain positive for long.
As far as platelet count are concerned, they do reduce in Typhoid fever. But ruling out Malaria and dengue is wisdom.
Platelets improve slowly within a course of a week or 10 days.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query please ask me.

Thanks for the answer.
I had already done Dengue & Malaria rapid test alongwith typhidot test initially and both Dengue & Malaria were negative, hence haven't done retest for both.
After 5 days on Taxim -o and since typhiod IgM is showing positive, do i need further medication.
What further tests should i take and at what intervals to know any further improvement in this disease?

Brief Answer:
No treatment required

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend, as I mentioned Typhi Dot test would remain positive for long without you bring suffering from Typhoid fever.
You need not to take any medicines further if your fever has gone.
In case your fever is persistent you would need further continuation of antibiotics.
No further tests are required.
Resolution of fever is the sign of recovery in Typhoid.
You may however go for a recheck platelet count after 3 days.
Take soft and bland diet. Increase consumption of fluids.
Good luck.
