Suggest Treatment For Persistent Constipation
Question: Hi my daughter is 2.5 years old and has been having constipation problem for the last 7-8 months.. She is on livoluk 7 ml daily (we started with 30 ml and have gradually reduced the dose)and occasionally I need to give her Laxopeg.. I give her high fiber diet and lots of water but problem is continuing.. Is this common in children and does it continue for this long a duration
Her problem has aggravated today.. She passed hard stool yesterday and seems to have got a cut or fissure as in spite of giving Laxopeg she is refusing to let the stool come out.. She is passing gas and saying that she needs to do potty but is refusing to do it when I put her on the pot... Complains of pain and then gets up from the pot crying.. Pls help.. I don't know what to do.. I have given her Laxopeg at 4pm and 20 ml livoluk at 8:30pm.. No stool as of now and she has gone to sleep as of now

Brief Answer:
Need to treat the cause
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in
Bowel movements up to three times a day and every alternate day are normal.
As your child is already on medications, it is evident that there is some root cause which is aggravating the same.
Again as you have rightly observed she has a fissure so it is better we treat her conservatively for the same.
Apply 2% lignocaine jelly two to three times a day, more specifically before and after she passes stool.
Also add a stool softner like cremaffin twice a day.
An anti inflammatory like ibuprofen may help relieve her pain.
Hope this helps
