Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold And Running Nose

Hello xxxxx,
It sounds as though your 3 week old has a cold. Indications for taking him in are if he becomes lethargic or if he shows distress, or if he develops a fever. If he develops a fever, then call your pediatrician for a plan.
I see that you wrote that you are trying not to cover him too much in case of a fever, but I encourage you to cover him as much as you feel is appropriate based on how cold it is. So cover him as much as you usually do. You don't want him to get chilled.
Regarding the diaper rash, Desitin ointment is fine. Washing (not with wet wipes, but with a wet wash cloth) and if possible, soaking his bottom in his tub once a day will be helpful. If you have the time, during diaper changes, take off the wet diaper, gently wash his bottom, XXXXXXX dry, and leave his bottom exposed to air for as long as you have time and he is comfortable, before reapplying the Desitin and putting on the fresh diaper. Getting the urine irritants off (with water) and exposing the skin to air can work wonders with diaper rashes.
I hope this information helps. My daughter is now a teen, but I remember the diaper rash days!

Hello xxxxx,
The cold medicine won't interfere with your C-section healing, but if you are nursing, it can come through the breast milk, and should be avoided in that case.
If you are nursing, you can use saline nasal sprays which are safe.
If you are not nursing, you can use any cold medicine products.
