Question: Have a terrible cold - for a week - no temperature- terrible cough - green stuff coming when coughing - feel chilly - feel really sick - heavy legs- have taken Tamiflu no improvement - over the last two days it got worse - since Tuesday voice disappeared - can I take Antibiotics - have Z-pack on hand - can I take it.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Yes, you can use the z pack if you have no history of allergic reaction to this medication (or other meds in this drug family such as erythromycin).

In addition to the antibiotics, you may need to try a mucolytic to help break up the mucus so that it can be expelled easier.
Eg bisolvan, mucomyst or guaifenesin
Using a lot of fluids would also help to break it down.

Paracetamol would help with any pain

If there is no improvement with the z pack or you have worsening of your symptoms, you should be assessed because it may mean that additional treatment may be needed eg iv antibiotics and a short 3 to 5 day course of steroids (if you have bronchitis)
