Suggest Treatment For Painful Lump On The Shin

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: I fell down wooden outdoor steps 2 - 2 1/2 months ago apparently scraping my shin, though this could not be seen, and l've been battling cellulitis for the last approx. 2 months as a result. I was prescribed a course of antibiotis which l completed. There has been a lump on my shin that first was painful, has itched for over a month and was reducing in size but has since spread again across my shin; it itches fiercely. Today l broke out in hives, across my entire body for the 1st time in my life. COULD THIS BE A SYMPTOM OF SEPSIS? I don't "feel right," but l'm not exactly unwell; l have no fever and my pulse is normal - 68. In general l am healthy and have no chronic ailments, and no family history of any significance. I'm concerned your answer will be "yes" just as a safeguard but l am an hour-and-a half from my doctor and lost my job just last week so l don't have the extra money to spend on gas unless absolutely necessary.

Brief Answer:
This is unlikely to be sepsis!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

This is unlikely to be sepsis. Sepsis would have come with fever and not hives all over the body. Hives are typical of allergies. I will suggest that you take benadryl and observe only for now. Monitor your temperature and general state. Also, I will appreciate an image of these hives for review as well. However, hives have never been typical in any sepsis case I have managed.

Keep me posted. I wish you well. Below are the instructions how to send an image of review and more insights.
