Brief Answer:
pain medications, treatment of swelling, role of surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand your concern for pain.
1) If these hemorrhoid which is planned to be ligated, is external type of hemorrhoid then it will cause pain after this procedure. This is because, this type of hemorrhoids outer layer is skin which has same nerve supply as skin surrounding anus.
2) swelling around hemorrhoid is also responsible for partly for development of pain and for this you can take anti-inflamatory group of medication. Use of local anesthetic medication as ointment will help to reduce pain at present and after procedure also. You must continue stool softener or laxatives to prevent hard stool which will be painful to defecate and also cause bleeding from hemorrhoid.
3) If you have episodes of bleeding due to hemorrhoids then you must undergo surgery for removal of them instead of rubber band ligation.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, I would be happy to help you.
Have a good day!
