default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: Hello. I have a very painful left knee that is swollen, mostly interior and below the patella. I am an X-ray tech and on my feet at a busy hospital a lot. I had been wearing a fabric brace on it for the last year do to pain but a few days ago.after my shift the pain became excruciating! I've been cold packing it and taking Advil until I can get in to the Ortho doctor. Should I go to an ER or wait until tomorrow for the doctor if he can fit me in? No trauma otherwise although there is a little bruise on top?

Brief Answer:
Yes you can wait till tomorrow

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have studied your case.
As per your symptoms and history there is possibility of osteoarthritis of the knee. It sounds like it is at the synovitis stage.

There can be associated meniscal injury leading to pain.

I will advise you to take analgesic and consult your doctor tomorrow.

You can do hot fomentation with hot water for pain relief.

You may need an x-ray and possibly an MRI knee for better staging and to get an idea of the severity.

Physiotherapy with Ultrasound and TENS will help give you relief.

I hope I have answered your questions. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us. I will be happy to answer. Take care.
