default
Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: pain/discomfort from throat to diaphram after eating to the point where the person must lie down to get relief. Sometimes it helps to burp or vomit. But lying down is most helpful unless that option is not available, then the person becomes very ill and in pain.

The patient has been diagnosed with a Hiatal hernia

How long will it take for a response?

Brief Answer:
It is due to the hyperacidity and reflux of the stomach acid.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

It seems clearly due to the hyperacidity and the reflux of the gastric acid into the esophagus and the pharynx (throat). The pain seems to be due to an ulcer. Ulcer is actually the denudation of the mucosal lining of the stomach and the duodenum anywhere and is due to the high acid content in stomach.

Reasons for high acidity inn stomach may be infection of the Helicobacter pylori infection. The reflux of the stomach content into the esophagus is due to the hiatal hernia (the stomach comes up through the diaphragmatic opening into the chest and there is incompetency of the lower esophageal sphincter that causes symptoms like you have).

If h. pylori test some back positive treating doctor may prescribe the patient with triple antibiotic regimen for treating.

I suggest for correction of the hiatal hernia of the stomach too. The Gastroenterologist consultation will be best. Make an appointment for the same with a local Gastroenterologist.

Take food in intervals. No big meals.
Take plenty of water and water should be taken either before or in the middle of the meals (not in the end).
Keep the head end of bed high by keeping the headboard elevators underneath. It will help relieve the symptoms of the reflux of acid.

Take before meals Levosulpiride/Lanzoperazole until you get a prescription from your local physician or Gastroenterologist for Dexilant capsule. Dexilant will help improve the symptoms fast by lowering the acidity.
