Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Shoulder Blade

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Aug 2016
Question: Im experiencing some mild pain along the inside of my right shoulder blade (about a 3) mostly when i flex or stretch. It feels similar to other muscle time pains ive experienced. Im also pretty sure i felt a tinge of pain on the other side (left) last week when i stretched funny (reached behind myself).

But last week i had a slightly swollen or tender gland that has pretty much subsided. And i mistakenly Googled shoulder blade pain finding some scary stuff. Can you tell me the difference in the type of pain I may experierence with muscle pain vs something more serious?

Im in good health, have almost quit smoking with chantix. I also experience some general and health anxiety.

Swollen/tender gland was in my neck (left side). I feel it still very slightly when I think about it and swallow. All of my symptoms seem to be exaggerated when I focus or dwell on them.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

The pain you are having possible inflammation if the shoulder tendons especially when stretching you put extra stress/pressure on them.

This pain can be perfectly managed by using oral antiinflammatories like ibuprofen or paracetamol and applying warm clothing locally.

If you notice swelling on your shoulder blade, should apply alternating cold and warm clothing locally.

With regards to swollen neck gland, that could be swollen lymph nodes.

Although no flu symptoms, other oral infection like gingivitis, bad teeth or ear inflammation/infection can be possible causes.

Get a good consultation with dentist to examine your entire oral cavity.
If infection is confirmed then, a course of antibiotics is needed together with good oral hygiene.

Hope it helps.
