default
Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Question: I was seen in the emergency room for what was diagnosed as a neck Spain One week ago. The pain has become persistent and more severe with increased limitation of my neck.pain is more severe at night ,so I took myself to an urgent care center and he suggested PT. I have new symptoms of left arm mild numbness and pain when swallowing my coffee. The pain I would describe in the emergency room 7 out of 10 and a week later it is at times 12/10 and I have a good pain tolerance. I have OA and have had Cervical surgery, shoulder and foot surgery. The pain I am experiencing currently is worse than prior to my next surgery. I am taking to muscle relaxer's and about 1-2 Vicodin per day. Is this a normal recovery?

Brief Answer:
Does not seem to be recovering

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I think you are not on the path towards recovery. There is something wrong with your treatment modality. Although physiotherapy is suggested for all such wear and tear pains, it should go through an evaluation by proper specialist.
I suggest you to take an appointment with Spine surgeon and get imaging test done to understand the progessive nature of the illness, It should better be compared with previous images.
If the pain is over 10 on a scale of 10 I fear this is quickly progressing towards irreversibility.
So please see an Orthopedic surgeon/Spine surgeon.

Brief Answer:
Exercises

Detailed Answer:
I will surely help you further.
You need regular exercise for the neck as prescribed by the physio once the spine surgeon understands and assess the severity of the ailment. You can also use soft collar for neck.
You have to take care of yourself regardless of what people dismiss. Continue the exercises

All the best.
