Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Knee

Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Question: I hyperextended my knee two days ago while working out at the gym since then I've had pain in the front of the knee, medial side of knee and back of knee. It's locked up on me a couple times and feels unstable when im walking like its gonna give out on me. I've injured this knee before years ago snowboarding and had surgery for a torn mensicus and was also told at the time I had a lax ACL. I have been icing it, elevating and taking ibuprofen. Should I see my ortho dr?

Brief Answer:
Do get an MRI scan done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent pain and feeling of an unstable knee on walking is suggestive of an internal injury of the knee joint. It can be a torn meniscus or a ligament. You need to consult an orthopedician and get an MRI scan done to find out the extent o injury you have suffered. Till then avoid weight bearing on the knee, use knee supports and avoid all painful movements of the knee joint.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Attend an urgent care.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
It is best to go to an urgent care and get an MRI scan done to find out the seriousness of the injury. Till then you can get a knee support for yourself.
