Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Chest And Between The Shoulder Blades

Posted on Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Question: Hello, I recently (end of April) underwent a heart attack and went through an angioplasty where 2 stents were put.
During the last few days, I sometimes feel some pain on my chest and in my back (left shoulder blade or sometimes between my two shoulder blades). Yesterday I felt the pain in my back between my shoulder blades and I used a nitroglycerin spray. After using it, the pain went away.
Should I worry ? What shall I do ?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

My opinion is that you should worry about the pain you are reporting. The pain is typical for heart issues (especially the fact that it was relieved from nitroglycerin) and you should go to ER.

If you were my patients I would suggest to do the following examinations:
- Blood work (including troponins)
- ECG
- Cardiac echo

If there will be anything abnormal you should go for angiography to exclude stent reclosure.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
