Brief Answer:
pain in the coccyx- coccydynia

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Injury could occur to soft tissues( muscles, ligaments , surrounding tissues) or to the bone (sacrum , coccyx).

Pain involving the coccyx is termed coccydynia.

The absence of bruising does not mean that the injury in limited to the soft tissue and there is no injury to the bone.

This is the reason that at least a plain xray may be needed. This is the initial investigation in persons with coccydynia.

An xray can determine if there is any fracture of the bones.

In terms of treatment :(1)may need stronger pain medication if the motrin is not effective. If this is not an option at this point then combine with paracetamol (1 g every 4 to 6 hours)

(2)avoid prolonged sitting

(3)use of u shaped cushion when sitting to avoid pressure on the coccyx

Since you are having pain on coughing, you may want to use a cough suppressant for now if you have a consistent cough. This can be used till the pain eases to avoid aggravating it.

(4)may want to try a heat pad to the area.

(5)if the pain medication, heat pad and cushion are not effective may need injection of a local anesthetic to the area by a doctor

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
