Suggest Treatment For Pain In Shoulder Blades

Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: Directly on my spine I have one spot that hurts sharply when pressed. It hurts in that spot if I lie on the floor or sit in a hard chair and accidentally brushed against it. If you gently follow my spine with your finger, you can feel a slight protrusion on that spot. It appears to be between two vertebrae just below my shoulder blades. I have no other symptoms. This has been going on for months.

Brief Answer:
Imaging studies needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using CM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Short term pain in the way you describe it could be caused by muscular problems such muscles strain.

Since there is slight protrusion besides pain, and this is going on for months, imaging studies are important in deciding the nature of the lesion, in your case.

It may be a bone problem (bone spurs), but also lesions of peripheral nerves such neurofibroma, schwannoma, are possible too.

I suggest you to discus with your primary care Doctor about examinations such x-rays (to evaluate bone etiology ) and probably MRI of thoracal vertebral column (soft tissues evaluation) to diagnose correctly your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
