Suggest Treatment For Pain In Ribs

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Question: Hi...I saw a chiropractor about 6 weeks ago and my right ribs area was jacked up a bit in his process. The severe pain has gone away, but still have a lingering pain in one part of the ribs area. They took x rays, no fractures or broken bones. I stretch it out every day and have given considerable rest. Is this something an orthapedic can look at? and maybe a cortisone shot might do the trick? Thanks for any guidance.

Brief Answer:
Avoid steroid injection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

It looks like you are on the way to recovery now. As you said that pain has decrease but some discomfort is left, I think there is no need to rush to orthopedic. You can continue with analgesic and hot water fomentation.

Steroid injection is not a solution for this type of post injury short duration pain. You should avoid it.
If the pain still persist beyond 2 weeks, you can visit the orthopedic surgeon. Right now just avoid heavy activities and lying on the affected side. You can also apply topical pain gels.

I hope this answer will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any other questions.
