Posted on Tue, 6 Jan 2015
Question: Four days ago, I felt a pop in my upper rib cage whike bending to the opposite side. I then fell onto the side i felt the pop in. Immediately after, and ever since then, I've been in pain at varying degrees. It hurts to take a full breath, I cannot sleep on that side, and it hurts to reach above my head.
I did this at work but did not fI'll out paperwork because I didn't think I would need too. But the pain isn't going away. How worried should I be? And at.what point do I NEED medical attention?

Brief Answer:
It may be muscle pull and strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you may be having muscle strain due to excess muscle pull as you are bending to opposite side. It is unlikely to be fracture but it can be excluded by x ray chest.

Treatment of it is rest and analgesic. You are already taking rest and analgesic (Aleve). So your treatment is OK. Pain will gradually reduce.

If in spite of rest and analgesic if pain increases or you have breathlessness, then you need medical attention.

You can discuss with your Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
