Suggest Treatment For Pain In Leg And Knee After Knee Replacement Surgery

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: I had ACL done in the early 90's and a total hip replacement 3 years ago. All on my right side. For the last few months I have experienced increasingly more painful leg and knee pain. Last night while getting in the tub my knee made a point and grind, only moldy painful. Now it is very difficult to walk. My knee is swollen and pain radiates down to my foot.XXXX

Brief Answer:
might be ligament injury again or secondary osteoarthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
From your history, it might be an injury to the knee ligaments again or it might be a case of secondary osteoarthritis. For diagnosis, a standing AP and Lateral film of xray of knee and an MRI knee should be done. Also for now, painkillers like aceclofenac or ibuprofen with antacids, local ice compression and bed rest with ankle and quadriceps drill will be effective. If swelling persists, I would suggest trypsin-chymotrypsin combination for 5 days. Also, a clinical examination by an orthopedician is recommended.

Hope this was useful.
